Spotlight on Membership & Community Events Committee

The Membership and Community Events Committee has been reenergized for 2007.The group has dedicated itself to expanding HRC’s outreach to the Greater NY community to grow and diversify HRC’s membership by providing new and existing members with fun, concrete ways to engage. This year has seen the introduction of several initiatives, including HYPE, the Women’s Initiative, and the expansions of our Pride Activities and Regional events.

HYPE stands for HRC Young People Engaged (HYPE) brings young adults together to participate in educational events, and engage in political activities. HYPE’s most recent successful event was a pool party at Hotel QT with over 60 people in attendance, including an appearance by Joe Solmonese.

 

PRIDE events included coordinating and marching in Prides in NYC, Long Island, and Connecticut. The Pride Cruise that attracted 234 people who enjoyed perfect weather, dinner, open bar and had a great time. The Post Pride Party for NYC at Cielo was well attended enjoyed by all, as were all the Pride parades in NYC, CT and Long Island.

 

Women’s Initiative activities are off and running. From the Monthly Socials at the Stonewall Inn, to the most recent WNBA Liberty Wine tasting party that attracted over 60 people, and a brunch in planning.

 

Regional Events like July’s Tee-off for Equality Golf outing in Long Island attracted 165 people for golf and a BBQ. This was double the number of attendees that attended the outing two years ago.
